It is an emulation of an analogue circuit that introduces either 2nd order valve style or 3rd order transistor style distortion or a blend of the two. X-Saturator delivers a stunning range of analogue style distortion effects. This is useful for fixing phase problems with microphones when recording: eg overheads causing phase problems when mixed with close mic’s. Unlike other filter types where the gain of selected frequencies is altered, with an All-pass Filter the gain remains unchanged throughout the signal. It enables the user to apply a phase shift (sometimes called a phase offset) at a specified frequency within a signal.

X-Phase is an All-pass Filter plug-in that offers the user manual control and benchmark audio quality.SSL has also announced a summer release for AAX native versions of the entire suite. To coincide with the new plug-in release SSL has migrated the entire Duende Native plug-in collection to the iLok 2 copy protection system. The new plug-ins are available now via the SSL web site. The three new plug-ins complement the existing range with two plug-ins (X-Saturator & X-ValveComp) designed to bring some analogue saturation and distortion emulation to your digital DAW and the third (X-Phase) delivering high precision frequency specific phase correction. Together with the Metric Halo Channel Strip (my fav for kick drums that I have recorded my self), the McDsp Channel G, and the Brainworx channels. The superior audio quality and deep feature set of the SSL Duende Native plug-in range has earned the respect of a very discerning clientele through the years. I promote the SSL Duende/Native to all I know. But that has NOTHING to do with the quality of the plugins. Yes, I agree that the SSL Duende/Native manual could be worded in a much better way. It depends on what end result you aim for. In one case plugin A would be better than plugin B, in another it would be the other way around.

There are NOT any best this or that, because most plugins are dependent on what you feed into them. a good sounding plugin, IS a good sounding plugin. Point being, no matter how many new plugins are coming. I just happen to prefer the old SSL Duende v5, and now the SSL Native v6 over the Waves one. The quality of the plugins are not what stops anyone making good sounding records Just like the SSL Duende/Native, the Metric Halo, McDsp and Brainworx Channel Strips. In use by the worlds best engineers/mixers every day. If you look through this forum you got enough people "bla bla'ing" on the Waves SSL channel as well.

If this is 2005 software in sound quality, how many plug in's do you still love that came out back then? How does his software hold up to newer software that model or have closer algorithms of the 9,000 series? Most have said any sound difference with the latest version is very minor and almost null out. The fundamental audio characteristics of the plug-ins remain unchanged but there have been a range of improvements which include new higher resolution user interfaces, improved Preset management, expanded purchase and subscription options. The latest version stated "Duende Native plug-in collection with completely re-written versions.

However it has a sound closer to the 9,000 as it's cleaner than the 4,000 series.ĭoes anyone know what updates and improvements (if any) these plug in's went through? Granted they up dated them to work with newer Mac and PC platforms and fix bug issues over the years.

Jim from SSl said this software were not modeled on the 9,000 series since it came out before the 9,000. These plug ins came out in 2005 when modeling plug in's and getting the same sound as the Hardware was not as close as it is today with updates technology.
